Blog Like It’s the End of the World

Zombie Uprising!

Via My Elves Are Different

  • Blog Like It’s the End of the World (BLITEOTW) will take place on 13 June. That’s not any particular notable day or anniversary, except for the unlucky number.
  • The idea is that your posting for that day is written as if a zombie uprising were taking place - around the world, and in your home town.
  • You blog about how it’s effecting you, what you might witness, rumours or news that you hear, and so on.
  • Because it’s taking place worldwide almost simultaneously, it’s obviously a Romero-style zombiegeddon, where all the recently dead rise up, and are able to infect the living. (As opposed to a 28 Days Later-style plague).
  • If you’d like to participate, let me know in the comments and I’ll post a link on this page. Otherwise on the day you can check technorati for posts tagged ‘zombies’. Oh, that reminds me: tag or label your blog posts ‘zombies’ so people can find them.
  • It’s a collaborative event, so the more you comment on other people’s posts, link to them from your blog, spread rumours and riff on ideas, the better!

Sounds like fun to me. Everything is better with zombies!

There’s a list of participating blogs on MEAD. If you need a soundtrack to the end of the world, hit up Send More Paramedics or Zombie Apocalypse.

Neverscapes widgetry

I’ve added del.icio.us and Digg links to my blog templates, so the former should display on all posts and pages and the latter on any posts that I (or anyone else) has dugg. There should also be a Twitter status updater thingy in the sidebar, but because that monumental waste of time in the form of a website appears to have collapsed under the weight of its own pointlessness (i.e. the site is down) it’s not currently displaying. Although this may be because my plugin is b0rked.

Fucking about with PHP in your lunch hour is fun, folks, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some forks to introduce to my eyes.

Hollywood’s march toward irrelevancy continues apace

This just in: Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has been fingered to direct a remake of cult SF classic Barbarella (a film I’ve somehow resisted seeing). This news comes hot on the heels of Keanu Reeves playing Doc Manhattan in the Watchmen movie [source], and word that somehow a second Alone in the Dark movie is being made. Uwe Boll* won’t direct, thankfully, because he’s busy filming the Far Cry movie in Canada (Far Cry is a game set on a tropical island, for the non-gamers amongst you).

Yes, you heard it here first: Hollywood is continuing to kill kittens and make baby Jesus cry. You’re just lucky this is a genre blog, else I’d have to mention Paul WS “AvP” Anderson directing a remake of Long Good Friday.

However, in better news, there are no new Star Wars movies coming, William Gibson is fairly confident there’s no Neuromancer movie either (it was rumoured to be directed by the bloke who did the Toxic video for Britney Spears, aka. Birttany Spiz), and Gabe Newell of Valve has stated that there’s no Half-Life movie in the works because the scripts were so terrible. We’re safe for a while longer. Paint it on your foreheads, people: “ALIVE INSIDE“.

* Okay, Boll isn’t a Hollywood director, but he wishes he was. Apart from the scale of incompetence there’s not much to distinguish him from awful hacks like Anderson and Bay.
