If only

“Do you suffer when you write? I don’t at all. Suffer like a bastard when I don’t write, or just before, and feel empty and fucked out afterwards. But never feel as good as while writing.” – Ernest Hemingway [Via Gareth Powell]

Dear Internet

Right then. A segway is a somewhat ridiculous-looking mode of two-wheeled transportation based on gyroscopic technology. A segue is a smooth or unbroken transition from one subject or section to another. They are homophones, which means they sound the same but are in fact spelled differently and mean different things. Thank you for your time.

Conversations with my Housemate’s Son

[Young Archie approaches me, holding a toy truck.] Archie: Where is this? Me: Where is that? In your hand? Archie: It’s a truck! Happy Wednesday, I’m on holiday!

Learning the language

There’s a good discussion in the comments thread of a post in Nick Mamatas’s livejournal. I figured out when I was in my mid teens that ‘getting’ music was about familiarisation, or […]

Time to weigh in on the Realms of Fantasy brouhaha

[There was a totally hilarious picture of a boxer dog right here, but I was getting too much dumb traffic from people googling “lol”, so I deleted it.] If you’ve not been following, which is sensible, but want to get clued up, which is not, I’d recommend going here and sniggering at the fail on […]

Probably not the most logical response to a heatwave

But you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Back to Normality

Things should all be working okay here now. As you can see I’ve switched themes; I’m liking this more minimalist look at the moment. The old Nobus theme I was using was pretty stylish but not the easiest to read, nor was it the best laid-out theme ever. So what do you think of the […]

NFI probs…

As you may have seen there’ve been some issues here at NFI over the last few days. These are basically the result of me moving to a new host and not knowing a damn thing about PHP and SQL. Anyway, the move is complete now although my old theme is broken. Please bear with me […]

The Offcuts – Flesh

Brighton’s Offcuts (disclaimer: my friends and some of my housemates) have finally released the video for their single ‘Flesh’ (warning: contains some graphic scenes of violence, gore and burgers): I say single, but it’s not been released as one. Maybe one day! Still, the video’s goddamn slick, huh?
