R.I.P. Oliver Postgate & Bettie Page

I don’t normally go in for obituary-style pieces, but this week has seen not one but two iconic figures pass away. First British children’s TV creator Oliver Postgate on December 8th, and today 50s cult pin-up Bettie Page.

Others can say it better than I can: here’s a Guardian obituary on Postgate which focuses on his TV work, as well as a Socialist Unity obit which discusses his efforts as an activist and his attempts to integrate his leftist slant into his creations. Thanks to Farah Mendelsohn for the latter.

News of Page’s death literally only just reached me via xrrf. Here’s the short BBC obituary I first read, and here’s a longer piece in the LA Times.
